At Insurify, our goal is to help customers compare insurance products and find the best policy for them. We strive to provide open, honest, and unbiased information about the insurance products and services we review. Our hard-working team of data analysts, insurance experts, insurance agents, editors and writers, has put in thousands of hours of research to create the content found on our site.

We do receive compensation when a sale or referral occurs from many of the insurance providers and marketing partners on our site. That may impact which products we display and where they appear on our site. But it does not influence our meticulously researched editorial content, what we write about, or any reviews or recommendations we may make. We do not guarantee favorable reviews or any coverage at all in exchange for compensation.

Why you can trust Insurify: Comparing accurate insurance quotes should never put you at risk of spam. We earn an agent commission only if you buy a policy based on our quotes. Compared to other insurance companies, Commonwealth tends to have higher rates and fewer discounts. Commonwealth is currently only available in Arizona, Ohio, and Texas.

The company doesn’t have a financial strength rating from AM Best yet, making it tough to compare its financial strength and stability to competitors. From a customer service standpoint, Commonwealth Insurance is on par with its primary competitors.

How Commonwealth’s rates compare to competitors

Commonwealth is more expensive than its competitors. If you’re interested in Commonwealth but want a cheaper policy, consider a liability-only policy that averages $118 monthly.

Average cost of Commonwealth auto insurance

Drivers with clean records typically secure the cheapest rates. Drivers with an incident on their record, such as a speeding ticket, an at-fault accident, or a DUI, experience higher rates. Insurance companies consider high-risk drivers to be more likely to file a claim, so they charge higher rates to make up for the possible financial loss.

Similarly, teen drivers pay high rates because they’re more likely to engage in risky driving behaviors and have less experience. Senior drivers pay the lowest rates because they have the most experience.

Check out the table below to see how Commonwealth’s monthly liability-only rates fluctuate depending on your driver profile, and how its averages compare to national averages.

Commonwealth car insurance cost by state

The cost of Commonwealth car insurance varies by state and ZIP code. Each state has its own minimum liability coverage requirements, so car insurance premiums fluctuate based on local laws.[1] Your driving history and risk profile also affect rates, so if you’ve had a car accident, you’ll pay more than if you had a clean driving record.

Here are the states where Commonwealth Insurance operates, and its average monthly liability-only rates compared to state averages.

State
Commonwealth Average Quote
State Average
Arizona$162$92
Ohio$74$74
Texas$136$119

Commonwealth car insurance discounts

To find affordable insurance, research discounts from different insurers to find the best option. Commonwealth Insurance has very limited car insurance discounts. In fact, the company website lists only a multi-policy discount. Customers who bundle auto insurance with home or renters insurance can save with this discount, although the amount isn’t listed.

How customers feel about Commonwealth

Commonwealth Insurance reviews are tough to find. Third-party providers, like Trustpilot and J.D. Power, don’t currently have Commonwealth ratings. But the sites that do have reviews aren’t very positive.

Commonwealth has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB). While that’s positive, the flip side is Commonwealth has 2.61 out of 5 stars on BBB based on 51 customer reviews.[2]

Commonwealth Insurance reviews on Yelp give the company a rating of 1.9 out of 5 stars based on 104 reviews. The company also has a higher-than-average number of complaints on the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Complaint Index.[3]

Commonwealth customer reviews

You may not find Commonwealth Insurance reviews on a major site, likely due to the company’s limited availability in three states. But we’ve rounded up real, verified users providing honest feedback about the company.

Commonwealth Insurance doesn’t have many reviews and ratings. AM Best provides financial strength ratings, while J.D. Power typically looks at customer satisfaction and user experience so you can compare how the company stacks up to its competitors.

Unfortunately, Commonwealth isn’t rated by either company. But the NAIC Complaint Index shows a higher-than-expected number of people making a formal complaint.

If you’re in an incident and cause any injuries or property damage to another driver or vehicle, liability insurance covers costs, protecting your liability.

Other options for Commonwealth customers

Commonwealth offers a couple other insurance products aside from auto insurance coverage:

  • Home insurance: You can insure your property and personal belongings, get water backup protection, and buy service line coverage. Commonwealth’s homeowners insurance offers more discounts than auto insurance, including a new purchase discount.

  • Renters insurance: You can get liability coverage for your apartment, personal property coverage, loss of use, and more with renters insurance.

If you combine either of these options with Commonwealth’s auto insurance, you can qualify for a multi-policy discount.

Commonwealth insurance FAQs

Finding the right insurance can be confusing. If you’re considering Commonwealth insurance, this additional information may help.

  • Is Commonwealth legitimate?

Yes. Commonwealth Insurance is a legitimate insurance company that offers auto, home, and renters policies. The company has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and operates in three states: Arizona, Ohio, and Texas.

  • What is the average cost of Commonwealth car insurance?

The average cost of Commonwealth car insurance is $116 per month for liability insurance and $308 for full coverage. Premiums vary by driver, location, and risk profile, as well as by state due to minimum liability coverage requirements.

  • Is Commonwealth good at paying claims?

Commonwealth doesn’t have an AM Best rating for financial strength or a J.D. Power rating, so it’s hard to determine the company’s financial strength and customer claims satisfaction. Some customers on the BBB website complain about the claims process being slow and a lack of responsiveness.

  • How do you cancel your Commonwealth insurance policy?

To cancel your Commonwealth insurance policy, you’ll need to call customer service at 1 (877) 603-1310. When you reach a representative, ask about the process and what you need to do to cancel your policy.

  • What types of coverages does Commonwealth offer?

Commonwealth Insurance provides auto, renters, and home insurance policies with many different additional coverage options. For example, you can get standard liability or full-coverage car insurance plus uninsured motorist coverage and rental reimbursement coverage.

Methodology

Insurify data scientists analyzed more than 90 million quotes served to car insurance applicants in Insurify’s proprietary database to calculate the premium averages displayed on this page. These premiums are real quotes that come directly from Insurify’s 50+ partner insurance companies in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Quote averages represent the median price for a quote across the given coverage level, driver subset, and geographic area.

Unless otherwise specified, quoted rates reflect the average cost for drivers between 20 and 70 years old with a clean driving record and average or better credit (a credit score of 600 or higher).

Liability-only premium averages correspond to policies with the following coverage limits:

  • Bodily injury limits between state-minimum rates and $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
  • Property damage limits between $10,000 and $50,000
  • No additional coverage
Full-coverage premium averages correspond to the same bodily injury and property damage limits in addition to:
  • Comprehensive coverage with a $1,000 deductible
  • Collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

Quotes for Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, State Farm, and USAA are estimates based on Quadrant Information Services’ database of auto insurance rates.
