At Insurify, our goal is to help customers compare insurance products and find the best policy for them. We strive to provide open, honest, and unbiased information about the insurance products and services we review. Our hard-working team of data analysts, insurance experts, insurance agents, editors and writers, has put in thousands of hours of research to create the content found on our site.

We do receive compensation when a sale or referral occurs from many of the insurance providers and marketing partners on our site. That may impact which products we display and where they appear on our site. But it does not influence our meticulously researched editorial content, what we write about, or any reviews or recommendations we may make. We do not guarantee favorable reviews or any coverage at all in exchange for compensation.

Why you can trust Insurify: Comparing accurate insurance quotes should never put you at risk of spam. We earn an agent commission only if you buy a policy based on our quotes. Encompass offers policies in 40 U.S. states and has been a part of Allstate since 1999. Today, it operates with a network of more than 2,400 independent agents.

It stands out for its unique coverage and discount options and innovative EncompassOne Package Policy, which allows you to combine multiple levels of protection under one plan. But the company also has some downsides to consider, including the lack of online customer reviews and a J.D. Power score.

Even if you’re set on Encompass, it’s still important to compare rates from multiple companies to find the best one for your budget. Keep reading to learn more about Encompass’ pros and cons and whether it’s the right fit for you.

Quick Facts
  • Encompass offers three EncompassOne packages with various coverage options at different price points: Special, Deluxe, and Elite.

  • Encompass has an AM Best financial strength rating of A+ (Superior).[1]

  • Encompass offers liability insurance starting at $96 per month and full-coverage insurance for $197 per month.

A relatively small car insurance company compared to others in the industry, Encompass still has plenty to offer and could be a good option for many drivers. It has an impressive lineup of discounts, coverage options, and bundle packages to choose from.

It also has the financial backing of Allstate, which helps solidify its financial strength. Additionally, Encompass has fairly affordable rates that are lower than the national average and on par with its closest competitors.

Unfortunately, Encompass falls behind the competition in customer service. Although the company’s website has positive customer testimonials, it doesn’t have a good sampling of online reviews and J.D. Power doesn’t rate it for customer satisfaction.

The table below shows how Encompass compares to similar companies such as State Auto, The Hartford, and Auto-Owners.

I was hit by another car entering the line of traffic from the right side intersection. The police report was fraudulent, but your adjuster did not take the time to thoroughly investigate the claim. I requested arbitration, but no one got my side of the story. The arbitration board did not ask enough questions. Your adjuster did not press the issue or discuss it with me. Everyone just assumed the police report was accurate. For your information, I retired after 17 years as a Regional Claims Manager of a major insurance company. With my past experience of arbitration, the mishandling of this claim added to my frustration.

  • Our editorial team spent 350 hours developing the Insurify Quality (IQ) Score and scoring insurance companies. The IQ Score objectively analyzes and calculates a score for insurers using more than 15 crucial criteria. Criteria are weighted by importance to the consumer — factors such as customer reviews and affordability influence the score more than availability and third-party ratings.

We rate each company on a 1-to-5 scale based on five categories: financial ratings, customer satisfaction, affordability, customer support and transparency, and availability. We update ratings once a year or as more recent information becomes available.

    • Third-party financial ratings: We use data from AM Best, S&P, Moody’s, and more to compare insurance companies’ credit and ability to pay out future claims.

    • Customer satisfaction: To calculate this score, Insurify analyzed more than 28,000 customer reviews across 155 car insurance companies. We also considered third-party ratings from J.D. Power, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), and Trustpilot.

    • Affordability: Our data scientists analyzed more than 90 million real-time auto insurance rates from our partners across the U.S., as well as available discounts, to calculate an affordability score.

    • Customer support and transparency: This measures coverage options, ease of claims filing, and the insurer’s transparency surrounding discounts, coverages, and claims process.

    • Availability and reach: Insurify identified the number of states in which insurers offer coverage and company size by market share to score availability and reach.

How Encompass rates compare to competitors

Encompass offers fairly affordable rates, at $96 per month for liability insurance and $197 monthly for full coverage. Its rates are cheaper than the national averages of $104 per month for liability coverage and $211 per month for full coverage. Encompass sits in the middle of the pack, with most of its competitors offering rates at a similar price.

The table below shows some of Encompass’ competitors and its full-coverage rates.

Full-Coverage Quotes by Insurance Company

Average cost of Encompass auto insurance

Encompass may offer decent rates on average, but your premiums will depend on your driver profile. Drivers with clean records typically secure the cheapest rates, and drivers with an incident on their record, such as a speeding ticket, an at-fault accident, or driving under the influence (DUI), experience higher rates. Insurance companies consider high-risk drivers as more likely to file a claim and charge higher rates to make up for the possible financial loss.

Age also affects your rates. Teen drivers see high rates because they’re more likely to engage in risky driving behaviors and have less experience. Senior drivers pay the lowest rates because they have the most experience.

The table below illustrates how Encompass’ liability rates compare to the national average liability rates for various driver profiles.

Drivers with an at-fault accident$140$151

Encompass car insurance cost by state

The amount you’ll pay for car insurance will vary by state because of minimum-coverage limits, accident rates, the number of uninsured drivers, weather patterns, and other factors. While looking at Encompass’ average premiums nationwide can be a helpful starting point, it’s important to understand their typical rates where you live.

In the table below, you can see the average Encompass liability premium in each state where it’s available compared to the state’s overall average liability rates. How customers feel about Encompass

When you’re shopping for car insurance, it’s worth doing some research to learn how other customers feel about the company. Perhaps due to its size, Encompass doesn’t have as many online reviews as many of its larger competitors. You can’t learn much about the company on review sites like Trustpilot.

The company doesn’t have Better Business Bureau (BBB) accreditation, but it has an A+ rating and 1/5 stars.[2] That said, the BBB website redirects to the National General reviews page — not Encompass — so the 1/5 star rating may not accurately reflect Encompass’ customer service.

According to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, the company has received an above-average number of complaints in 2024, scoring 1.36.[3]

It’s worth noting that Encompass’ parent company, Allstate, is one of the top auto insurers in the industry. The company ranks among the top insurers for claims customer satisfaction but scores below average for overall customer satisfaction in most regions, according to J.D. Power studies.[4] Like Encompass, Allstate has an above-average NAIC number of 1.4.[5]

Encompass customer reviews

It’s difficult to find customer reviews for Encompass. The insurer has no reviews on the BBB and one negative review on Trustpilot.[6] The company does display positive testimonials on its website that praise its claims process and customer service.

Encompass ratings

Rating agencies such as AM Best, J.D. Power, and the NAIC rate auto insurance companies based on their financial strength, customer satisfaction, complaints, and more. These reviews give an unbiased view of how a company is doing, especially when compared to other insurers. Considering these rankings from third parties when shopping for car insurance is important.

The table below shows that Encompass has a strong financial strength rating from AM Best, no rating from J.D. Power, and has a poor NAIC rating.[1][3]

Encompass car insurance coverage options

Encompass offers all standard auto insurance coverages, including state-minimum required coverage. Though insurance requirements vary by state, nearly all states require drivers to have bodily injury and property damage liability insurance. A liability-only policy is the cheapest option from Encompass. Many states also require uninsured motorist coverage and personal injury protection.

In addition to the state requirements, Encompass also offers full-coverage insurance, which commonly includes comprehensive and collision insurance. Collision coverage pays for damages to your vehicle after an accident, while comprehensive coverage applies when something other than an accident damages your vehicle.

On top of its standard auto insurance coverage options, Encompass also offers several specialty coverages that may be helpful:

    New car replacement

If your car is totaled in a covered loss, new car replacement will replace it with a new one of the same year and model or a similar year and model.

    Accident forgiveness

Encompass will forgive your first accident and won’t raise your insurance premiums. Customers who enroll in Encompass’ Elite auto coverage package can get Enhanced Accident Forgiveness, which applies to multiple accidents.

    Loan/lease gap coverage

Gap insurance covers the difference between your insurance payout and your loan or lease balance if your car is totaled in a covered loss.

    Teen auto insurance

This coverage provides insurance for your teen while helping you minimize the additional cost.

Encompass offers a good lineup of coverage options compared to its larger competitors. While some of its coverages, such as roadside assistance and gap insurance, are fairly standard among insurers, others, like new car replacement and Encompass’ unique accident forgiveness offerings, are less common. But it lacks other popular coverages, including rental reimbursement coverage.

It also offers insurance for other vehicle types, including motorcycles, recreational vehicles, and boats. Encompass customers who want multiple coverage types can purchase the EncompassOne Insurance Package Policy, a comprehensive plan combining three insurance products: home insurance, auto insurance, and insurance for certain personal belongings.

Encompass has an average liability insurance premium of $96 per month and $197 per month for full coverage, which is lower than the national average. But your premiums will differ based on your driving history, location, age, credit, and other personal information.

  • Is Encompass good at paying claims?

Encompass has an AM Best financial strength rating of A+ (Superior), demonstrating a strong ability to pay its claims.[1] But the company isn’t rated by J.D. Power for claims satisfaction. Both companies offer similar types of policies, though Allstate may have more options and better digital features.

Methodology

Insurify data scientists analyzed more than 90 million quotes served to car insurance applicants in Insurify’s proprietary database to calculate the premium averages displayed on this page. These premiums are real quotes that come directly from Insurify’s 50+ partner insurance companies in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Quote averages represent the median price for a quote across the given coverage level, driver subset, and geographic area.

Unless otherwise specified, quoted rates reflect the average cost for drivers between 20 and 70 years old with a clean driving record and average or better credit (a credit score of 600 or higher).

Liability-only premium averages correspond to policies with the following coverage limits:

  • Bodily injury limits between state-minimum rates and $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
  • Property damage limits between $10,000 and $50,000
  • No additional coverage
Full-coverage premium averages correspond to the same bodily injury and property damage limits in addition to:
  • Comprehensive coverage with a $1,000 deductible
  • Collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

Quotes for Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, State Farm, and USAA are estimates based on Quadrant Information Services’ database of auto insurance rates.
